During the Battle of Mogadishu, there were many children soldiers. Many of these children were shot and killed by American soldiers. While my classmates and I were watching the movie Black Hawk Down, the question arose whether or not the Americans should have killed them. Many people say no because Americans were told not to kill women and children; however, some people say yes because although they were children they were enemies. In my opinion, yes they should have killed them. Although they were children, they were the enemy. I believe it would have been wrong if the children were not soldiers and were not killing people. However, they were soldiers and they were killing people. Many people also say they would not have killed the children soldiers because they were someone's child. Yes, they were someone's child, but so was every other solider no matter their age, eight or twenty. I believe if they were not out there knowing they could be killed then they should not have been in the war.
What would you do if you were face to face with an enemy soldier that had a gun and was about to shoot you? You would shoot them right? If you didn't then they would shoot you and possibly many of your fellow soldiers. When it comes to war there are no rules. If you are not prepared for what the outcome may be then you should not be fighting. Therefore, if the children are not prepared that they may be killed they should not be fighting.
Yes, children are young and have a life ahead of them but so does every other soldier. Would you risk your own life to not shoot a child, with a gun, that could possibly shoot you? Many people have many different thoughts on this topic. However, I believe that a enemy soldier is to be killed no matter their age. All's fair in love and war.
